The Parent Pledge
Introduction:
I, the undersigned parent, recognize the ever-growing influence of technology, especially social media, in our children's lives. While technology offers undeniable benefits, I acknowledge the potential dangers of early and unrestricted digital access.
Shared Commitment:
Therefore, I commit to join a community of like-minded parents, united in our commitment to fostering healthy digital habits for our children.
I pledge to:
-
Delay Smartphone Access: I will not provide my children with a smartphone (including iPhones, Androids, etc.) until they reach the age of 16. Alternative communication devices, such as basic flip phones or wearables are acceptable prior.
-
Postpone Social Media Engagement: I will not allow my children to create or access social media accounts (including Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, and similar platforms) before they turn 16.
-
Prioritize Unstructured Play: I will actively encourage and support more opportunities for unstructured, screen-free play with other children, preferably outdoors. This includes creative play, physical activity, and social interaction.
Benefits:
By delaying smartphone and social media exposure, I believe our children will:
-
Develop essential social skills through face-to-face interaction.
-
Foster creativity and imagination through unplugged play.
-
Prioritize physical activity and overall health.
-
Focus on academic achievement without digital distractions.
-
Build stronger parent-child bonds through quality, screen-free time.
Community & Support:
This pledge signifies my commitment to raising digitally responsible and well-rounded children. I acknowledge this journey requires ongoing support and shared experiences. I embrace this community as a platform for resources, encouragement, and collaboration as all committed parents navigate the ever-evolving digital landscape together.
By signing below, I affirm my commitment to the principles outlined in this Parent Pledge.
